Danger, Danger! AI Bubbles, Vibe Coding Evolutions, and More
The Weekend Windup #10 - Cool Reads, Events, and More
This is the last day of good weather in SLC, so going climbing outside in just a bit. Also in the middle of a few big projects, so gonna keep this ultra short. Matt Housley (my co-author on Fundamentals of Data Engineering) and I record a monthly podcast. In this episode, we talked about the elephant in the room, namely the AI Bubble. We also discussed the maturation of AI coding tools, and much more. Definitely a fun chat. You can also listen to it on your favorite podcast platform. Enjoy!
Rumor has it we might bring back the Monday Morning Data Chat sometime in 2026.
In other news, expect some articles next week, including tips for getting started on Substack, a new building blocks chapter on counting and aggregation on Practical Data Modeling, and more. The book is coming along nicely, and I’ll be posting the revised table of contents next week too. Good to see the end in sight for this first data modeling book, and more details will be published soon.
Also, off to Paris later next week. If you’re at Forward Data Conference, come say bonjour.
Have a fun weekend,
Joe

Helping my friends out at Coactive.ai, who are doing a cool event in Colombia!
If you’re connected to AI, ML, or data engineering communities in Medellín, or know local meetups, universities, or partner networks that might want to get involved, I’d love your help spreading the word.
Also if you can suggest anyone in particular to participate in lightning talks, would love to showcase them.
Date: Wednesday, December 3, 2025
Tentative Venue: WeWork Parque El Poblado, Medellín
Time: 5:30 – 8:30 PM
Description:
Coactive is hosting a community event bringing together local engineers, data practitioners, and AI enthusiasts.
The evening will include networking, lightning talks from local AI practitioners, and a panel discussion on “What’s Next for AI Engineering in Colombia?” followed by a raffle for a Meta Quest 3 and some great giveaways.
Notes:
Our goal is to strengthen Coactive’s connection with the Colombian AI and data community, spotlighting local talent, sharing real-world applied AI stories, and building bridges for future collaboration.
We’ll share the registration link soon, but I wanted to get early word out so people can mark their calendars.
Thanks so much for helping us grow the local AI ecosystem, Medellín has such incredible energy and talent, and we can’t wait to be part of it!
But wait, there’s more!
My other upcoming events are posted here.

Wow Geordi LaForge is speaking at the Trust By Design conference. Oh no wait, that is just Joe Reid. The glasses must have confused me. I wonder what their data stack is like?
