Another thing to add - a year has a lot of stuff that is outside of your control (markets, wars, pandemics, etc). The only thing you can control (to a large degree) is what you do day to day. Just focus on your circle of control and a lot of stuff falls in to place.

Excellent advice. I recommend “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg for anyone interested in some of the scientific reasons why this post is spot on.

Agree with you on the habits front. One twist I've made use of is annual "themes". It relieves some of the achievement pressure of resolutions, while making space for growth in a specific direction. Past themes I've had are: Routine, Music, Hobbies, Cooking, and Writing. Going into 2023, I'm feeling pulled in a lot of directions, so I'm focusing on Ritual, and trying to find more intentionality in the push and pull of the day-to-day.
